Electric Guitars

Electric guitars are fundamentally simpler than their acoustic cousins, however they have many subtle complexities, and it’s the nuances that make all the difference.

Our experience building acoustic guitars has sharpened our understanding of tone and we use this awareness in our electric guitar making.

The solid body design of an electric guitar offers nearly limitless creative potential. We treat this freedom conservatively, blending innovative features into timeless designs without unnecessary complications.

Our goal is to produce the most refined and most beautiful sounding electric guitars possible.

Continuing the Evolution

The evolution of electric guitar designs in such a short time is remarkable. In less than a century they have evolved from the very early prototypes, which were acoustic guitars with electronics attached, to carefully designed purpose-built instruments.

Building electric guitars has a unique set of challenges. Aside from the difference in the way the sound is produced in an electric guitar compared to an acoustic there is a challenge to maintain an innovative approach to the design of electric guitars.

Innovation is key to the development of electric guitars but it is important to keep a balance between innovation and tradition. We focus on innovation while respecting conventions and remembering why they exist. During design, we are always looking back and looking forward at the same time.

Sound & Playability

At the heart of every electric guitar is the transformation of string vibrations into electrical signals for amplification. The pickups are fundamental in this process, so we choose these carefully to achieve the desired sound.

The timbers, electronics, hardware and design all shape the sound. We craft and source each part of the guitar to have the optimal resonant qualities, with all the components coming together to produce a cohesive, beautiful sound.

A meticulous setup is key to playability, and we focus on elements like neck profile, fret finishing, and weight distribution to ensure a comfortable, responsive playing experience.

Many of our guitars incorporate strategically placed chambers, reducing weight while preserving sound quality.

Design with Purpose

Our commitment is to build electric guitars that not only deliver exceptional sound and workmanship, but also captivate with their designs.

By prioritizing individuality in design, we create guitars that are both aesthetically pleasing and distinctive. While we frequently embrace classic shapes, we’re not afraid to explore innovative designs that challenge tradition.

Every guitar begins with a defining feature—be it a specific timber, color, or unique detail—that guides its design. Clean lines, exquisite woods, and influences from jazz and classical guitar traditions come together to create instruments that are as beautiful as they are functional.

Timber & Finish

The right materials are critical to both tone and aesthetics. We carefully select premium, aged tonewoods, including traditional options like Mahogany and Maple, alongside Australian timbers such as Blackwood, Red Cedar, and Gidgee. These woods bring a unique character and beauty to our guitars.

Clear finishes enhance the natural grain of highly figured timbers, while translucent colors and sunbursts add depth. Solid finishes provide a striking contrast, letting the hardware and design shine.

We primarily use nitrocellulose lacquer for its durability and ability to preserve a wood’s natural resonance. In special cases, we may opt for a French polish finish, offering a softer, more organic look.
