Mid-Year Course Wrap Up

Tuesday, August 15th, 2017

Some amazing guitars came out of our July 2017 Guitar Making Course. The first solidbody electric was made by Jamie. His Stratocaster replica featured a 1-piece American Swamp Ash body and a Rock Maple neck with Maple fingerboard.

The other two instruments were acoustic guitars but they were very different. Blair built a cutaway Orchestra Model using figured Queensland Blackwood for the back, sides and top.

Jack wanted to build a guitar he could play bluegrass on, so he modified a lot of the elements of a standard Dreadnought. The top was made from German Spruce with scalloped X bracing shifted forward to the pre-war Martin position.

We’re looking forward to our next guitar making course on the Gold Coast in January 2018. Sean Hancock will also be teaching at a two-week course in October at Walton Guitars and Coffee in Noosa Heads and in December at another course in Brisbane soon to be announced.
